Gloucester Sport and Exercise Facilities

Sports Facilities Around Gloucester

Gloucester Chiropractors are based in Barnwood, Gloucester, just 1.5 miles from Gloucester city centre, but with excellent transport links to Quedgely, Longlevens, Stroud and Cheltenham.

At Gloucester Chiropractors, we believe that there is more to keeping healthy than just seeing the chiropractor (although that certainly helps!).

In addition to a good diet and taking time to look after your mental well-being, you just can’t beat a bit of exercise. This is especially true when it comes to keeping your body healthy.

Exercise helps prevent and recover from all manner of nerve, muscle and joint problems, from sciatica to headaches. It also helps prevent osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, dementia, diabetes… the list is actually almost endless.

Being local to Gloucester and working with thousands of Gloucester residents, all of our chiropractors have a good exposure to exercise facilities in and around Gloucester.

We have decided to put that local knowledge to some use by listing a few facilities nearby, with a few recommendations if you are interested in a particular type of activity.

Yoga

Yoga can be really helpful if you have stiff joints or muscles. With emphasis on balance and flexibility, yoga is suitable for all ages. Fortunately, in Gloucester we have plenty of providers:

Quay Yoga Studio – https://www.quayyogastudio.co.uk/ Located in the centre of Gloucester (Gloucester Quays), QYS offer classes for a range of abilities and offer different membership packages as well as pay as you train. You could say they’re flexible!

Yoga with Lara – http://larabyoga.co.uk/ Operating from Quedgely and Upton St Leonards, Yoga with Lara is a small, individual yoga centre offering Hatha Yoga.

Mama & Me – https://kayx44.wixsite.com/website catering for new mums and infants, Mama & Me spend time on massage and bond-building, as well as stretching and Yoga. Not your average exercise class, but given the number of pregnant and post-partam patients we see, we thought this would be good to include here.

Pilates

Chiropractors love a bit of Pilates. It combines balance and flexibility training with strength. And strength is really healthy. Fortunately, in Gloucester, we are really well catered for.

From the Feet Up – https://www.nicolabeard.com/ Building on a central tenet of Pilates, that strong and reactive feet have a positive impact on the whole body, From the Feet Up run courses from Spirit Health Centre in Barnwood.

Tennis

Tennis is a fantastic whole-body exercise, requiring coordination, stamina, skill, power, balance and tactics. As well as the bigger centres (such as East Glos in Cheltenham https://www.eastglos.co.uk/ and David Lloyd in Brockworth https://www.davidlloyd.co.uk/clubs/gloucester/ ), there are a number of smaller clubs and facilities in Gloucester that offer more affordable ways of playing.

Free courts – there are a number of free courts dotted across Gloucester. We know of courts in Abbeymead, Barnwood and Linden.

Gloucester Wotton Lawn Tennis Club – https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/GloucesterWottonLawnTennisClub Near Denmark Road School, Wotton Lawn is the oldest tennis club in Gloucester. It has a number of grass and tarmac courts and enters into Gloucestershire leagues for those of a competitive inclination.

Oxtalls Tennis Centre – https://aspiretrust.org.uk/tennis/tennis-general Gloucester City Council fund Aspire Trust to provide accessible sports facilities for all. They have indoor and outdoor facilities as well as coaching.

Rugby

As chiropractors, we shouldn’t really be encouraging rugby… but it is a fantastic game and part of Gloucester culture like no other sport.

And because you will need a chiropractor, there are a number of clubs local to our Barnwood clinic.

Coney Hill RFC – http://www.coneyhillrfc.com/ Closest to us in Barnwood are Coney Hill RFC. They have three senior men’s teams and compete in the Gloucester Premier League, Gloucester and District 1 and Gloucester and District D.

Hucclecote RFC – https://hucclecoterfc.co.uk/ Again just down the road, Hucclecote have three men’s teams and a ladies team.
